Islamic History · 8 min readLearning the Seerah, the life story of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is foundational to understanding Islam. His life serves as the living example of the Quran put into practice, making the Seerah essential for every learner.
Early Life in Makkah: Born in 570 CE, Muhammad ﷺ was orphaned at a young age and raised by his grandfather and later his uncle Abu Talib. Even before revelation, he was known among the Quraysh as "Al-Amin" (The Trustworthy).
The First Revelation: At age 40, while meditating in the Cave of Hira, he received the first verses of the Quran through the Angel Jibreel, marking the beginning of his prophethood.
Years of Patience in Makkah: For thirteen years, the Prophet ﷺ and his small community of believers faced intense persecution, yet responded with remarkable patience, laying the moral foundation of the early Muslim community.
The Migration to Madinah: The Hijrah (migration) to Madinah in 622 CE marks the start of the Islamic calendar and represents a pivotal shift — from a persecuted minority to an organized, thriving community.
Character and Mercy: Even amidst conflict, the Prophet ﷺ was known for his mercy — forgiving enemies, caring for orphans, honoring treaties, and treating even his harshest opponents with dignity.
Teaching the Seerah to Children: Break the Seerah into simple story segments, use age-appropriate books and illustrations, and connect each story to a practical lesson in honesty, patience, or kindness that children can apply in daily life.
